Explore with care. Adventure with heart.
We invite all Wild Society guests to explore Lake Tahoe responsibly and help protect the magic that makes this place so special.
• Leave it better than you found it.
Respect signage and posted rules — they’re there for your safety and to protect fragile ecosystems.
• Think like a local.
Ride public transportation, carpool when you can, and support small businesses and community events.
Every choice you make helps keep Tahoe vibrant, wild, and welcoming.
• Give back when you’re able.
Join one of our community clean-up days or volunteer through North Lake Tahoe’s Ambassador Program.
A little time goes a long way.
We believe adventure should go hand in hand with stewardship.
Thank you for helping us protect the lake, the land, and the soul of Tahoe — for today and for the future.
Because every step leaves a story.
Do your part to preserve the natural beauty of North Lake Tahoe — a place that gives so much to all who visit.
• Leave no trace.
Pack out everything you bring in, and dispose of any waste in designated receptacles.
• Stay on trails.
Wandering too far off path may seem harmless, but it can harm fragile landscapes and growing things.
• Be mindful of movement — yours and your pets’.
Every choice matters in protecting this place we all share.
• Ditch the plastic.
Bring a reusable water bottle (Tahoe tap is the best!) and your own utensils when possible.
Small swaps = big impact.
We all have a role to play in protecting the magic of this lake and land.
Let’s take care — together.
Knowledge is part of the adventure.
Before heading into nature, take a few minutes to plan ahead. You’ll protect yourself, your adventure, and everyone around you.
• Check weather conditions and safety updates for both California and Nevada before your visit — and pack accordingly.
• Review local travel tips and recommendations through Tahoe North’s “Know Before You Go” guides, including helpful itineraries and safety protocols.
• Sign up for state and county alerts to stay informed of real-time travel advisories or emergency updates while you’re here.
Being prepared helps keep the magic smooth, safe, and stress-free.
Adventure flows best when you know what’s ahead.
We’re just visitors here.
Wildlife is one of Tahoe’s most sacred gifts — and it’s our shared responsibility to protect it.
• Observe from a distance.
Give animals space to move freely and naturally. Close encounters may be exciting for you, but stressful — or dangerous — for them.
• Never feed wildlife.
That includes offering snacks and accidentally leaving trash or food exposed.
It only takes one interaction for an animal to associate people with food — a habit that can put both them and you at risk.
• Keep the balance.
When animals become food-conditioned, they lose their natural instincts, and everyone loses a little of the wild.
By keeping our distance and our snacks to ourselves, we help keep wildlife… well, wild.
Fire safety is part of loving this place.
Tahoe’s beauty is fragile — and fire risk is real. Staying fire-aware helps protect everything we love.
• Know before you go.
Check fire restrictions and permitting rules before starting a campfire, using a grill, or burning anything outdoors.
Fireworks are never permitted in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
• Cook smart.
When outdoors, opt for propane or gas. If using charcoal or wood in approved areas, soak, stir, and feel ashes with the back of your hand before disposal.
• Stay alert. Stay ready.
Be aware of emergency conditions. Sign up for county and state text alerts to stay connected to advisories while you’re here.
A single spark can change everything.
Thank you for helping keep Tahoe safe — and standing guard over what makes this place so special.
You’re not just visiting — you’re part of the experience.
Kindness ripples. The way you show up in Tahoe shapes how Tahoe shows up for others.
• Support locals with patience and presence.
Small, locally owned businesses appreciate your grace and understanding — especially during high-volume seasons.
• Be flexible and open.
If an area feels too crowded, explore somewhere new.
There’s magic waiting off the beaten path.
• Speak gently. Park mindfully. Keep noise low.
Whether on a trail or in a neighborhood, remember: you’re someone’s guest.
• Move through the world with awareness.
Every choice leaves a footprint. Let yours be a kind one.
It takes all of us, moving together with care, to keep this place peaceful, magical, and open to all.
